Description

I've Been Framed!A short while ago, my good friend Alice, AlicesPlace, posted the following image, except that it had, when originally presented, a thin black border rather than the thicker magenta shade seen here. Alice is fond of such borders. I'm very taken with Alice's work, especially flower shots in which she manages to present novel angles, details, shadows, beautifully rendered colours and usually eye-catching compositions. With the original image, I tempered my comment with the observation that I thought a thin black border did not do justice to the picture, or rather, I might not have used such a border. After some further comments, Alice re-posted the image as seen here and allowed me to download it in order to explore and discuss the framing of images.

Great composition and colour, Alice. I like the tonal variations as well - get those shadows into flower shots! The black border would not have been my choice - probably I would have gone for white and a broader one. My friend Mike mikeloveridge is the king of borders - worth checking.
